Metal ceramics, or porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) restorations, are widely used for crowns and bridges, combining strength and aesthetics. They feature a metal alloy base (precious or non-precious) for durability, especially in posterior teeth, with a porcelain layer that mimics natural enamel.
Fabricated using CAD/CAM technology or traditional methods, metal ceramics are versatile, suitable for single-unit and multi-unit restorations. While highly durable, they may sometimes show a grayish tint near the gumline due to the metal base.
